Ag Safety Day coming to fairgrounds Sept. 16

The Chase County Fairgrounds will be site for the 7th Chase County Progressive Agriculture Safety Day on Friday, Sept. 16.
Chase County 4-H partners will be working with Chase County Schools to bring this learning experience to students in grades K-6. It will also offer high school students the opportunity to fulfill community service hours for graduation, said event coordinator Chris Tomky.
Registration forms will be sent home from school next week, Tomky said, with forms due back by Sept. 1.
The Safety Day is designed to increase children’s awareness on a wide variety of hazards, as well as providing them with hands-on training in making responsible and safe choices when in rural settings.
Some of the topics in the planning stages include “hidden view,” first aid topics and many more.
This Progressive Agriculture Safety Day has the following corporate foundation sponsors: Bunge, Nutrien, CHS, John Deere, TC Energy, Cargill, State Farm, Corteva and Farm Credit along with many other sponsors both international and local.
“The local support has been outstanding in the past and we look forward to the support from our local community in order to achieve an outstanding event for all the Chase County children,” Tomky said.
Volunteers are also needed.         “If you have an interest and the energy to keep up with the excited children,” sign up to volunteer, she added.
As a school event, there will be no charge to attend, but Tomky said donations and goods will be needed to make it a success.
If weather is a factor Sept. 16, a rain date of Sept. 19 has been set, she said.
Volunteers may sign up online at signupgenius.com using email: bctomky@gmail.com to search.
