Wauneta’s ‘Santa Saturday’ slated for this weekend

Wauneta’s annual Santa Saturday Christmas celebration will kick off Saturday afternoon.
Unlike in past years, this year’s celebration will be held all on one day.
The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. with Mrs. Claus reading a Christmas story at the Chateau Theatre. That will be followed by a free movie at 3 p.m. in the theater.
Santa himself will make an appearance at the theater at 4:30 p.m.
The Parade of Lights will take place on main street at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the soup and chili cook-off at 6 p.m. in the community building.
That final event also will feature a prize drawing for a Christmas basket featuring items from Chamber businesses. Part of that will be a canned food drive, with entrants getting a ticket for every canned item donated.
In addition, the kindergarten class will sing Christmas carols, there will be an angel tree and voting for best holiday-decorated lamp post.
The Chamber celebration is being held on the same day as two other unrelated events.
Mercy Meals will hold its annual bake sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day in the Mercy Meals building on main street.
Saturday also will be the first day of the Methodist Church’s annual quarter store at the senior center.
The store, aimed at providing kids with a chance to do their own Christmas shopping for inexpensive gifts, will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 7 and 14.
