Valens concert delivers uplifting music, message, humor

The free concerts last Saturday and Sunday at Crossroads Wesleyan Church were a mixture of gospel music and hits from the 60s made famous by pop singer, Frankie Valens, now a gospel music singer and ordained minister. Also appearing was Valens’ wife, Phyllis, professional concert pianist, vocalist and songwriter. Familiar gospel selections were sung where the audience could sing along, as well as some old pop favorites like “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and “This Magic Moment,” made famous by Valens. Phyllis Valens gave a piano performance to kick off the concert. The Valenses began “Frankie Valens Ministries” in the mid 80s and continue to share their music and message wherever they are led.
