Frankie Valens

Sixties music icon to perform free concerts

This weekend will provide the community with an opportunity to revel in a musical blast from the past along with  inspiring gospel music.
Frankie Valens was a popular nightclub singer and recording artist in the late 60s and early 70s whose signature song was “This Magic Moment.”
He was well-known for his renditions of other songs of that era made popular by other top singers.
Some of those well-known song titles are “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” “Donna,” “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes,” “Unchained Melody” and “She Cried.”
Valens and his wife Phyllis, an accomplished concert pianist, vocalist and song writer, will be presenting two concerts at Crossroads Wesleyan Church (CWC).
“The community and surrounding areas are invited to attend both concerts,” said CWC Pastor Alex Gebert.
The first concert will be at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Saturday concert will be a combination of Valens’ popular 60s hits and gospel music, which has been his and his wife’s principal music style after dedicating themselves to “Frankie Valens Ministries” in the mid-80s.
An ice cream social will follow Saturday’s concert.
The second performance will be on Sunday evening at 6:::30 p.m.
This  concert will be devoted to the gospel music ministry for which Valens is known.
A love offering will be received during both concerts.
