Nurses give from heart; Governor recognizes profession

May is Nurses Month in Nebraska and Gov. Pete Ricketts took time to say thanks by highlighting the profession all this month.
Now more than ever, nurses are investing themselves in the well-being of Nebraskans.
They are taking care of Nebraskans suffering from coronavirus at great risk to themselves.
“On behalf of all Nebraskans, I want to extend my gratitude to nurses everywhere,” said Gov. Ricketts.
Nursing is a noble profession, and according to the Gallup polls, nursing is recognized as being the most honest and ethical profession for the last 18 years.
Nurses are strong, compassionate and caring, as stated by a spokesman for Gov. Ricketts’ office.
Margie Haider, RN, and Director of Nursing (DON) at Imperial Manor and Parkview-Heights, agrees.
Haider has been in healthcare for over 40 years.
Her mother was in nursing, which sparked Haider’s interest in the beginning.
“Nurses are dedicated, professional, compassionate and guiding mentors who take others under their wing—giving of themselves,” she said.
Haider has worn many hats, from a nurse’s aide and LPN in her early career to DON, as well as consulting and management positions at numerous facilities in several cities and states.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, it has been an ever-changing situation day-to-day, Haider said.
“One day the government officials say we cannot do one thing then the next day we can. Each government entity has a say in what protocols should be followed at any given moment, just before it changes again—it’s crazy,” she said.
