New coordinator gets start at community blood drive

Emma Jenkins of Imperial has been a familiar face in the community since her family moved here from Lincoln in 2010.
Jenkins has taken over as local coordinator for the American Red Cross blood drives.
She observed the position as coordinator for a blood drive previously, but the drive last Thursday was her first to coordinate solo.
There were 75 donors at the blood drive.
“I was very impressed by how many dedicated donors we have here,” Jenkins said.
The drive collected 71 units, falling short of the goal of 93, but gained six new donors.
There was also good attendance for the Business Gallon Challenge, said Cathy Carman, donor recruitment representative for Red Cross.
Chase County Hospital and Clinic had 16 donors who have donated two gallons of blood.
Frenchman Valley Coop had nine donors with one gallon collected.
The third business was 21st Century Equipment with four donors who gave half a gallon that day.
It is important to Jenkins to keep the blood drives going because the need for more blood donations are always a concern, she said.
“I want to do my part,” she added.
