Historical society calendar spotlights county’s churches

It’s Charley Colton’s desire to preserve the history of Chase County.
With that desire, he’s aware of so many old photographs of towns, structures, activities and people that are contained in volumes at the Chase County Museum.
So became the reason for beginning a series of Chase County Historical Society calendars.
This year’s edition is out, hot off the presses, and residents will have at least three opportunities to purchase one of them at Christmas events this week.
They’d make a great Christmas gift, he believes.
The 2020 edition marks the fourth consecutive year for a calendar and the theme is churches.
Previous themes have been towns (the first year in 2017), followed by farmsteads/ranches and, last year, schools.
Colton agreed it’s a labor of love for him.
“This is not a money-maker for the historical society,” he said.
“I just want to get the stories and pictures out there and give people a chance to see the pictures they may not always get to see,” he said.
Colton said the museum in Champion has volumes of photographs that have been donated by families or acquired by the historical society officers and members.
