Filing deadline for candidates arrives Monday

Another filing comes in for commissioner race

Interest is picking up on the local election scene as four more people filed for office the past week as the March 2 filing deadline nears.
Among those new filings is a third candidate for County Commissioner Dist. #1.
Dave Teply of Wauneta filed last week on the Democratic ticket for the commissioner’s seat now held by Chuck Vette of Wauneta, a Republican, who is seeking reelection. Terry Bilka, a Republican, has also filed for the seat.
Only one candidate from each party can advance from the primary to the General Election in November.
That means, even if no one else files for the commissioners’ race, there will be a runoff for the Republican candidate in May. That winner will face the Democratic nominee in November.
County Election Commissioner Debbie Clark reminds candidates they have until Monday, March 2 to file.
Her office at the courthouse will stay open an hour longer until 5 p.m. Monday to take filings.
Three other filings the past week were for school board seats in Imperial and Wauneta.
Laura L. Maddox filed for one of five open seats on the Chase County Schools board of education.
