Council votes 3-1 for dispatch/jail contract

With limited meeting discussion, Imperial’s city council voted to approve a contract/agreement with Chase County for dispatch and jail services.
Councilman Chad Yaw, who’s been working with Commissioner Jacci Brown to iron out wording, presented the contract/agreement and asked for the vote.
It passed 3-1. Yaw, Johna Jablonski and Doug Gaswick voted yes, while Charlesa Kline voted no.
Yaw said the document before them represented a culmination of a year’s work on negotiations with the county.
It was signed by County Board Chair Chuck Vette and Sheriff Kevin Mueller following the commissioner’s Jan. 28 meeting.
Yaw said there were not a lot of wording changes since the last one they reviewed, but there are some.
One of those is more specifics on what the county is providing as dispatcher for city police, utilities and fire department.
While city officials had preferred separate contracts for dispatch and the jail, the county wanted both areas included in one contract.
Several months ago, the council voted to pay the $35,000 fee for dispatch service, which is included in the document reviewed Monday.
The latest contract added 3% yearly increases.
