City’s Outstanding Citizens announced

    Dennis Batterman and the Imperial FFA’s senior parliamentary procedure team were named Imperial’s outstanding citizens for 2020.
    They were announced at Monday’s city council meeting, after the council reviewed nominations.
    Batterman, the over 18 years of age selection, received four nomination letters. He was cited for his volunteer work as a member of the Lions Club and Friends of the Library, as well as his volunteerism at the community center, United Methodist Church, with the Goodwill truck, in genealogy activities and other library involvement.
    One nomination said of the former elementary teacher, he “retired to spend most of his time volunteering every day to help make Imperial a better place.”
    The parliamentary procedure team earned the 18 and younger outstanding citizen selection.
    The team of Lindsey Mendenhall, Courtney Odens, Brooklyn Christensen, Alexis Richmond, Jozie Schilke and Valerie Herbert made history as the first Nebraska team to win the national senior parli pro title last fall.
    “I feel the national championship needs to be acknowledged one more time for these smart, hometown girls,” the nomination letter reads.
