Chase Co. records four new COVID cases

Health district shows 25 new cases in its nine-county area

While Nebraska’s number of positive COVID-19 tests is dropping, the Southwest Nebraska Public Health Department (SWNPHD) is experiencing an uptick in theirs.
The SWNPHD and the state’s Department of Health and Human Services keep statistics differently, but numbers show a slight weekly decrease across the state, while the health district’s cases have increased each week the past month.
The DHHS reported the daily average of positive cases between Aug. 15-21 was 234, compared to 269, 270 and 291 in prior weeks.
Meanwhile, in that same period last week, SWNPHD has been notified of 25 people who have tested positive for COVID-19.
That’s an increase from 21, 11 and 10 in the previous three weeks.
Chase County has four of the  newest cases. Keith had eight, Perkins six, Dundy four, Furnas two and Frontier one.
Here’s the breakdown on the new cases in affected counties:

Dundy – One male 0-19 yrs; male 20’s direct contact; male 50’s travel-related; female 50’s direct contact

Last week’s cases bring the total to 137 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the SWNPHD.
Director Myra Stoney said many of the recent cases are related to two ongoing outbreaks.
