CARES Act funds gained by CCCH

With the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. government has been reaching out to assist hospitals across the country, especially rural ones.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump March 27.
According to the U.S. Treasury website, the CARES Act “provides quick and direct economic assistance for American workers and families, small businesses and preserves jobs for American industries.”
In early April, Chase County Community Hospital (CCCH) received $293,000 from an initial distribution of CARES Act funds.
This was part of the $50 billion general allocation that was sent to all hospitals and healthcare providers in the nation.
Last week, CCCH also received another $3.3 million from the $10 billion distribution of the rural allocation fund, specific to rural hospitals and clinics.
The purposes of these distributions are to prevent, prepare for and respond to COVID-19 and to reimburse for lost revenues due to the pandemic.
“At this point, we continue to work with our auditors in monitoring the terms and conditions associated with these grant funds as there is a great deal of uncertainty as to whether CCCH will retain these funds in the long term,” Hospital CEO Abby Cyboron said.
“As such, CCCH intends to be conservative with the use of these funds until further clarification is given by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,” she added.
“Our ultimate goal is to maintain a high level of care amidst this pandemic event.  We appreciate all of the support that our community continues to show CCCH,” she said.
