WP Broncos off to invite in Sutherland Thursday

Like coaches across Nebraska, Wauneta-Palisade track coach Dawn Doetker said it is great to return to competitive track.
WP attended the Hitchcock County Early Invite last Thursday.
The girls 400-meter relay team of Halle Bardsley, Peyton Cox, Cali Cox and Alexa Sandman highlighted the day, setting a new meet record with a time of 56.93.
Haylee Sandman placed first in the 100 meter dash and set a personal record in the process.
Grant Walker was first in the 200 meter dash.
Jacksen Littrel took first in the discus.
Coaches shuffled athletes as injuries took their toll during the day.
Doetker said it was nice to a have variety of girls able to run in the relays.
With a goal of five personal records at the meet, WP came up one short. Setting PRs were G. Walker in the long jump, Haley Walker in the shot put and A. Sandman for her leg of the 1,600-meter relay.
“It is very exciting to see how our team is going to build and improve. We have lots of potential,” Doetker said, adding that she’s seeing great leadership from the upperclassmen.
The meet featured Wallace, Hitchcock County, Southwest and Medicine Valley from the RPAC, plus Hi-Line, made up of Elwood and Eustis-Farnam.
Doetker said the RPAC will be tough this year and it was nice to get a feel of what the other teams have for athletes.
WP battled a flu bug and some injuries in the last week, but Doetker is hopeful everyone one is ready to go for Thursday’s Sutherland Invite
Doetker said it will be a bigger meet for the Broncos with teams WP doesn’t see often.
With some bigger schools there, Doetker said there will be a lot of great competition.
