Track season heating up for Bronco teams

The Wauneta-Palisade track team continues to work through the early stages of the track season.
The Broncos traveled to Sutherland last Thursday.
WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker said there was a lot of great competition at the meet.
While it was cold, Doetker said the team did well despite missing some athletes.
Even though, Doetker said WP is still in the stages of conditioning and getting in shape, plus fine tuning field event  techniques and starts, seven PRs were set by WP senior and junior boys and four were set by senior and junior girls.
Grant Walker took first place in the 100 meter dash. His time of 11.81 tied with Carson Glunz of Wallace. Walker also placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles.
Braxton McKinney earned team points with second place finishes and personal bests in the triple jump and high jump.
Kyle Jutten was third in the high jump.
Walker, McKinney and Jutten were joined by Jacksen Littrel for a fifth place finish in the 400 meter relay.
On the girls’ side, a PR helped Cali Cox tie for first place in the long jump with Bridgeport’s Olivia Loomis-Goltl.
Ryleigh McCrumb was fifth in the 800 meters and sixth in the triple jump.
Alexa Sandman, Haylee Sandman, Peyton Cox and C. Cox combined for a third place finish in the 400 meter relay.
With the Broncos traveling to Dundy County-Stratton Tuesday and heading to Cambridge Saturday, Doetker said it’s a big week and coaches are hopeful WP will have everyone healthy and available this weekend.
“It is still very early in our season and we don’t have to rush anything that would cost us a pulled muscle or someone out for the remainder of the season,” Doetker said.
