Bryn McNair was named female athlete of the meet at Ogallala’s Ed Moore Invite after wins in the 400 and 800 meter events, a second place finish in the high jump and running a leg on the 1,600 meter relay that finished second.

Lady Longhorns run past competition at Ogallala

The Chase County girls’ track team went up against some of the best the region has to offer last week.
The team walked away with some confidence and excitement to carry it forward after capturing the team title, Head Coach Troy Hauxwell said.
Expecting Ogallala and Sidney to put up stiff competition, Hauxwell was tinkering with CCS entries earlier last the week to find the best combinations. But the coach said the Longhorns stayed fairly consistent with what they have been doing and didn’t make a lot of changes.
“We broke up one of the relays for an individual event. I was more excited and appreciative on how the individual responded in her willingness to do what is best for the team,” Hauxwell said.
Bryn McNair was named female athlete of the meet. The sophomore won the 400 and 800 meter events and was second in the high jump.
Jerzee Milner won both hurdle events.
Jordan Jablonski was first in the pole vault.
Second place finishes went to Kamrie Dillan in the 100 meter dash and Lucy Spady in the 3,200 meter run.
CCS relays picked up valuable points, as well.
The 3,200 meter relay team of Spady, Jablonski, Ali McNair and Kora Weiss placed first early in the day.
The 400 meter relay, Milner, K. Dillan, Chloe Dillan and Jablonski, and 1,600 meter relay, K. Dillan, Weiss, Milner and B. McNair, both finished second.
Knowing CCS would see a high level of competition, Hauxwell said he was curious to see how his team would react to being challenged.
“Overall I thought the girls responded well to the competition level on Thursday,” Hauxwell said, adding the meet is nice opportunity to compete against the bigger schools and get an idea of where the team stands.
The Longhorns will travel to Cambridge Saturday. The Don Stine Invite will include JV squads from North Platte, McCook and Lexington, plus Ogallala, Loomis, Arapahoe, Southern Valley, Southwest, Wauneta-Palisade and Dundy County-Stratton.
Hauxwell is looking forward to a full week of practice before the meet.
“We will have the opportunity to get in a solid week of practice and utilize a full week of training,” Hauxwell said.
“We just want to continue to improve,” he added.
