Franklin flies past Wauneta-Palisade football

The Wauneta-Palisade football team fell to 0-2 after a loss to Franklin Friday.
The Flyers (1-0) took the opening kickoff and scored on its first play of the game.
Though WP turned the ball over on downs on its first possession, the Broncos got the ball back with an interception by Hunter Miner.
The first quarter ended with the teams trading possessions, but the Broncos started the second quarter off with a bang. WP scored on a 49-yard touchdown by Michael Duvel to close its deficit to 6-7.
Franklin extended its lead with a touchdown two plays later, then returned an interception for a touchdown on WP’s first play of its possession. The Flyers scored once more on its next possession, as well.
Grant Walker snagged WP’s second interception of the game on Franklin’s first possession of the third quarter. The Broncos were unable to score, however, and Franklin marched down the field to add another touchdown to its total.
WP found success on its next drive. Starting at their own 27-yard line, WP strung together a 10-play touchdown drive.
The Broncos completed six passes on the drive, including a three-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Hanna to Aidan Kennicutt.
Franklin scored once more in the third quarter, then added two more touchdowns in the fourth.
Conner Bryner ran for a 34-yard touchdown late in the game for the Broncos to bring the final score to 18-52.
Hanna completed 18-29 passes in the game for 165 yards, including six completions to eight passes to Duvel for 92 yards.
Bryner rushed 18 times for 41 yards.
Hanna led the way defensively with eight tackles. Wyatt Muths had three tackles for loss and Jacksen Littrel had two tackles for a loss.
WP Co-Head Coach Randy Geier said the Broncos continue to show improvement in all three phases of the game and are excited to take on South Platte Friday.
South Platte comes into the game with a 0-1 record after a 12-50 loss to Wallace.
Kickoff in Wauneta is set for 6 p.m. MT.
