Enders edges Imperial for Chase County Cup

Enders Lake Golf Course golfers rallied late in the singles matches to snatch the Chase County Cup away from the Imperial Country Club team Saturday.
    After the doubles competition, both Enders and Imperial won six points in best ball and alternating shot to go into the singles matches all even.
    After the first eight singles matches were complete, Imperial had won five of the eight and halved another for 5.5  points. At that point, all Imperial needed was a half-point out of one of the final four singles matches to retain the cup.
    Enders boxed out Imperial in all four of those final matches to finish with 6.5 points to give them the needed 12.5 points to take the cup, 12.5  to 11.5.
20th year of County Cup
    This year’s match marked the 20th anniversary of the playing of the Çhase County Cup between the two courses.
    This year’s win by Enders evened the number each team has won the Cup at 10.
    Dan Russell and Russ Pankonin of Imperial are the only two players who have participated in all 20.
    The event is played under match play rules over a possible 27 holes.
    The first match consists of twosomes best ball team play followed by a second match of twosomes alternating shot.  Each match is worth six points for a total of 12 points in doubles play.
    The final matches feature 12 head-to-head singles matches, with one point up for grabs in each singles match for an overall total of 24 points.
    Enders players included Rick Einspahr, Joel Burke, Joe Johnston, Matt Hanna, Craig Poppe, Matt Klima, Joe Humphrey, Jess Vapenik, Aaron Kaiser, Trevor Amen, Troy Space and Eric Exum.  Lee Denker and Rogan Einspahr served as non-playing co-captains.  
    Imperial players included Dan Russell, Derek Russell, Travis Wheeler, Jeff Castor, Aaron Cyboron, Kirk Wilson, Russ Pankonin, Eric McDaniel, Jason Burke, Brad Spady, Tom Luhrs and Jim Pirog. Chris Lee served as the non-playing captain.
