Cornhole tournament benefits ball fields, boys

Participants in this weekend’s Cornhole Tournament will be contributing to two Imperial projects.
Sponsored by the Horns 27 Baseball 12-and-under team, the tournament will raise money for Automated
External Defibrillators (AED) for the two Imperial ball fields, as well as a youth wood bat baseball tournament in June.
The cornhole tournament will be held Sunday at the Imperial Golf Course. Check-in is at 12:30 p.m. with the first bag tossed at 1 p.m. Entry costs are $40 per adult team and $20 per youth (ages 10-14) team.
The payout is 50 percent of the entry fee.
A bake sale and 50/50 drawing are also part of the event.
Spokesperson Marilyn McDaniel said an AED costs about $1,500 to 2,000. She hopes enough is raised to purchase one each for Schroeder and Campbell Parks.
An AED is used to restart a person’s heart following an injury or other heart incident.
McDaniel said her group wants to purchase AEDs that are compatible with those used by the Imperial EMS, so that there is a smooth transition for the patient.
Money is also being raised for a youth (ages 12 and under) wood bat tournament June 11-13 in Imperial.
Rotary raffle
Imperial Rotary Club will be conducting a reverse raffle to raise money to purchase at least one AED, according to President Eric Exum.
In addition, funds from the raffle will be donated to the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department fire hall and other local projects.
Exum said Rotarians may be contacted for tickets at $100 apiece. Two hundred tickets are available for sale.
The winning ticket is the last one drawn and nets $5,000. The second to last and third to last tickets drawn are worth $3,000 and $2,000 respectively. There will be 14 winners, he said.
Winners will be announced during a live Facebook event May 25 at 7 p.m.
