Chase Co. girls look to continue track success in 2021

The last time the Chase County girls’ track team was in action, the group was battling for a trophy in Omaha.
CCS has finished in the top 10 at the state meet in every meet since 2015, including championships in 2016 and 2017 and 2019’s runner-up finish.
This season, Head Coach Troy Hauxwell said around 38 girls have reported to try and help CCS return to the top of the podium.
Hauxwell listed 13 returning letterwinners from the 2019 season, Caelyn Long, Chloe Dillan, Dai Medina, Delaney Krutsinger, Jerzee Milner, Jordan Jablonski, Kambree Meeske, Kamrie Dillan, Kora Weiss, Lucy Spady, Matalie Wallin, Ryley Vrbas and Sadie Peterson.
With so many new athletes on the track, Hauxwell said the kids have been great, but there’s definitely a lot of work and reteaching. May 2019 seems like a long time ago, he said.
“We just need to continue and reestablish routines and it will be nice to get a meet in Thursday. I hope everyone is excited and ready to go,” Hauxwell said.
Hauxwell expects relays, middle distance, distance and sprints to be strengths, but is waiting to see who develops and steps up in the jumps, throws and vault.
The Longhorns will be at the Perkins County preseason triangular Thursday with the hosts and South Platte. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
Sutherland will host districts May 13.
