Area hoopsters earn all-state honorable mention honors

    Seven Chase County and Wauneta-Palisade athletes have been named to the Lincoln Journal Star and Omaha World-Herald honorable mention lists for basketball.
    Both papers tabbed Chase County seniors Mason Nordhausen and Cedric Maxwell as Class C2 honorable mention.
    For WP, seniors Braxton McKinney and Haylee Sandman, plus sophomore Cali Cox and freshman Peyton Cox, were honorable mention in the Journal Star and World-Herald. Junior Alexa Sandman was honorable mention in the World-Herald.
    This season, the Broncos and Longhorns faced many of the players named to the first or second team in their class.
    For the Journal Star’s Class C2 boys, Yutan’s Brady Timm, who CCS faced in the first round of the state tournament, was captain of the first team, while he made first team in the World-Herald.
    Tyler Slechta, of Class C1 Adams Central, was first team in the World-Herald and second team in the Journal Star. CCS played Adams Central in December. Adams Central’s Cam Foster was second team in the World-Herald.
    Bridgeport’s Luis Garza was first team Class C2 in the World-Herald.
    In Class D1, Clayton Berry of Southern Valley and Jack Heiss of North Platte St. Pat’s were both second team in the Journal Star. Heiss was first team in the World-Herald while Berry was second team.
    WP faced Journal Star Class D2 second teamer Clayton Moore of Mullen in February. Moore and teammate Brendon Walker were both second team in the World-Herald.
     The Journal Star and World Herald both named Bridgeport’s Ruthie Loomis-Goltl first team and Olivia Loomis-Goltl second team in Class C2.
    Both papers placed NPSP’s Tonja Heirigs on the second team of Class D1. South Platte’s Autumn Dickmander, who WP played in December, was also on the second team.
    Maywood/Hayes Center’s Jaycee Widener was first team in Class D2 for both papers. WP also faced Macy Richardson of Sterling, second teamer for both papers, in districts.
