New CCS fourth grade teacher is big Husker fan
Emily Jones was raised in Benkelman and graduated with honors from Concordia University with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and an endorsement in special education.
Jones was awarded a Dean’s Scholarship, a Women’s Basketball Scholarship and a Foundation Scholarship at Concordia. She was also named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Jones joined the CCS staff as a fourth grade teacher as well as a freshman girls’ volleyball and basketball coach.
“Lisa Krutsinger was my fourth grade teacher and my inspiration to be a teacher. She introduced me to the love of reading, and I want to do the same for my students,” said Jones.
She said her goal is impacting a life everyday.
“I want to be a light in the life of someone and be a positive role model for them,” she added.
Jones said she loves sports, and her whole family loves the Huskers.
“I grew up in a family that instead of taking family vacations, we all went to Husker games instead,” Jones said.
She is single, but she has a cat named Ferdinand Cyrus.
“My students love hearing stories about my cat,” she laughed.
When not teaching, Jones goes for walks as a stress reliever.
She also loves to work out and is planning on getting back into weights, she said.
Jones shared she has a love of cooking and finding new healthy recipes to try.
“I’m glad to be here. It’s fun working so close to home (Benkelman),” she added.
