Imperial FFA wins parli pro and marketing plan at state

The standards have been high for the Imperial FFA program and this year’s competitors met them during last week’s virtual state FFA convention.
Imperial won the parliamentary procedure and marketing plan competitions during competitions Apr. 7-9.
Advisor Jeremy Vlasin said Imperial has a strong history in both events.
It’s the school’s sixth state championship in parliamentary procedure in the last 12 years. Imperial didn’t field a team in four of the other six years.
The chapter won the national parliamentary procedure competition in 2019, but all of the participants on this year’s team were competing for the first time. Team members are Kade Anderson, Carter Leibbrandt, Morel Jurrado, Madelynn Hanes, Colin O’Neil and Elizabeth Reeves.
Runner-up went to Central, third to Ainsworth and fourth to Hayes Center.
It was also the first year competing in market plan for seniors Morayah Cupp and Kambree Meeske and junior Nickolas Rau.
This year also marks the sixth state championship for Imperial in market plan.
“Their plan has to take a local business and add value to that business and then write a plan on how to market that value-added product or service and give a presentation on it and then answer questions about their plan,” Vlasin said.
Cupp, Meeske and Rau chose to write their plan on Wine Glass Ranch.
“Their value-added product for Wine Glass Ranch was having them use a portion of their cattle and go completely grass-fed, hormone free; increase their GAP certification to level five; and market customized beef boxes where people can order boxes of 100% grassfed cuts,” Vlasin said.
Both teams gathered to see the final results at the Catholic Hall in Imperial April 8 and 9.
Vlasin said none of these students will be able to compete in these events again following nationals.
“In FFA, if you win state you become ineligible to compete in that contest again. So the students on these state champion teams, who are underclassmen, will not be able to compete again in these contests,” Vlasin said.
Cupp wins State Star
Also during the convention, Cupp won the chapter’s seventh State Star. It’s the first since Spencer Hartman won in 2013 for agribusiness.
Advisor Jason Speck said FFA members who have applied for their state degree and have outstanding SAE programs may apply to be a State Star in production, agribusiness, placement or agriscience.
Twenty-four individuals are selected to be finalists each year and one Star is named in each of the four areas.
Speck said Cupp competed against five others in agribusiness. Cupp’s SAE is renting mobile chicken coops.
The finalists interviewed Friday morning and winners were announced that evening.
