CCS students place in State Fair educational competition

Chase County Schools students completed projects for the State Fair competition  last year before school was out for the summer, said Arlys Cupp, second grade teacher.
The projects were entered and transported to the Nebraska State Fair during the summer. The students didn’t compete in the in-person competitions that were held during the fair, she added.
The Education Department of the Nebraska State Fair invites all students who have completed kindergarten through 12th grade in the spring to participate in the educational activities.
“Students did not need to qualify at the county level to enter,” Cupp said.
There are both individual and school sweepstakes competitions.
The individual sweepstakes competition is divided into the following age groups: grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12.
Six students in each division were awarded trophies.
CCS third graders Jaela Keating, Jackson Sauder, Cassandra Deluao and Maura May each received trophies as sweepstakes winners.
The sweepstakes winners are determined by points accumulated from entries and the awards they have won.
In addition, the first place student in each division received a $150 scholarship,  second place, $100 scholarship and third place, $50 scholarship.
These scholarships are paid to the college of the student’s choice after the student has graduated from high school and enrolled in college.
“We had so many special awards,” said Cupp.
