CCS speech team stays busy

The Chase County speech team made two trips to Sutherland and stayed home for a virtual meet last week.
CCS took part in the Best of the West 2 virtually Feb. 24. The virtual meet was hosted by North Platte.
Advisor Alex Schilke said her team went to the Social House because CCS was still in session.
Schilke said her team did well.
Tegan Towns and Brayan Cazares both advanced to finals in their events. Towns placed sixth in poetry and Cazares was seventh in serious prose.
Also performing was the duet of Kayla Chavira and Iris Robles, Brooke Schilke  in poetry, Mason Tyerman in extemporaneous and Annika McDaniel and Kobe Norman in entertainment.
“While the virtual meets are different, it has made for great bonding opportunities for my students. This is a team that cheers for each other. I am so pleased with how well they are improving and growing,” Schilke said.
CCS traveled to the Sutherland Invite Saturday.
Cazares made the finals once more and placed second in serious prose.
Also taking part was Towns, Tyerman, McDaniel and Norman.
The team was on the bus  for Sutherland once more Monday for SPVA.
Cazares was third in serious prose, Towns fourth in poetry, McDaniel sixth in entertainment and Tyerman seventh in extemporaneous.
Norman also perfomed in entertainment.
Bridgeport took the team title, followed by Sutherland and Perkins County.
Schilke said she was so pleased with her students during their SPVA tournament.
“It was awesome to have four finalists. They did an amazing job,” she said, adding she’s excited to see how districts go Saturday in Ainsworth.
The Wauneta-Palisade speech team will have its district Monday at Callaway.
