CCS hosting district music contest Friday

Chase County Schools will be full of melody Friday when the school hosts the NSAA District V (West) music contest.
Jodie Liess, CCS music teacher, is coordinating the contest. Students from CCS and Wauneta-Palisade will have entries in the contest, along with 10 other area high schools.
All performances, which kick off at 8 a.m., will be open to the public, Liess said. Masks are optional, but are not required, she said.
A schedule of all performances will be available when people arrive. Liess recommends that people be seated a little early before scheduled performances, especially for the smaller groups and solos.
For the large group performances, if a school receives a superior rating from all three judges, they will earn a plaque.
For the small ensembles and solos, Liess said judges will select an outstanding performer as well as two honorable mentions.
There are no classes scheduled Friday at CCS, but faculty will be at the school helping monitor rooms and working the performance rooms.
Pom Poms will be serving pizza, popcorn and drinks at the concession stand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Liess said people are asked to eat in the auxiliary gym so as not to interfere with performances.
Besides CCS and WP, other schools competing here Friday include Arapahoe, Cambridge, Dundy Co. Stratton, Eustis-Farnam, Hayes Center, Hitchcock Co., Maywood, McCook, Medicine Valley and Southwest.
According to the schedule on Tuesday, CCS has 32 performances on tap Friday, while WP is registered for 21.
The NSAA cancelled all district music contests last year, when this area’s was to be held in McCook.
Chase County will host the District V (West) music contest again in 2022.
