Commissioners move forward with several improvement projects, seek new bids

April 9th meeting
The Chase County Commissioners held their regular meeting on April 9. Commissioners reviewed the bids gathered for a fuel tank at the Lamar shop. Yant Equipment submitted a bid for $37,807.41. Orthman Energy LLC. presented a bid in the amount of $59,192.76. Midwest Petroleum Equipments’ bid was for $46,504.39. The commissioners awarded the bid to Yant Equipment out of Lincoln for a 5260g tank with 360-degree FlameShield–which will exceed the minimum requirements for the project.
Highway Superintendent Toney Krajewski presented a bid for the overlay project planned for Old Highway 6. Hall Brothers Inc out of Kansas was awarded the bid. They proposed a project total of $295,680.00 for Onyx Mastic Surface Seal. The county will be using Highway Buyback funds for the project.
Eron Kitt was present to request permission to put up an electric fence gate at both ends of a portion of Ave 343. The road already has cattle guards. The electric fences would be a secondary measure. The commissioners denied this request as the road is listed as minimum maintenance and must stay open. This decision was made on the advice of the county attorney.
The commissioners also awarded a bid to PowerTech Generators out of Wisconsin for a new generator for the Courthouse. The county will be using Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency Funds to cover the $87,950.
Bids for the electrical upgrade project at the Fairgrounds were also reviewed. Pivot Electric submitted a bid in the amount of $10,775 and Brophy Electric submitted a bid of $11,740. The bid was awarded to Pivot Electric.

April 23rd meeting
At their April 23rd meeting, Emergency Manager Duane Dreiling made the commissioners aware that the new generator for the courthouse had been ordered and was expecting installation to begin in July or August after the equipment has been received. PowerTech Generators will install this as decided at the Commissioners meeting on April 9th.
The Commissioners received the signed Police Services contract from the Village of Wauneta. The contract with its updates including daytime patrol presence and ensuring Sheriff’s department representatives at Village of Wauneta Board meetings will go into effect on July 1st.
Commissioners will seek bids beginning on May 14th to replace the current cleaning service contract taking care of the courthouse and Extension building which will end in May.
Bids will also be sought to replace the roof at the courthouse and to repair the roofs at the Lions and restroom buildings at the fairgrounds. NIRMA (Nebraska Intergovernmental Risk Management Association) funds will be sought to cover part of the costs with the County handling the rest. Again, bids will open on May 14.
