Girls track first at DCS Twilight, Beemer sets new school record

    Freshman Avery Beemer cleared 10’ 9” to set a new school record, taking out Peyton Feidler’s old record of 10’ 8” and win the pole vault competition at the DCS Twilight meet Friday, May 3.
    The meet was moved up from it’s 3:00 pm start, to a 9:00 am start due to weather predicted to move in late Friday.
    The Lady Longhorns also took first place in the 200, 400, 800 and triple jump. Every running and Field event except the high jump, had three Longhorns score points.
    In the 100, Ella Colson finished third, Riley Rusher fourth and Alexa Alarcon-Ortega seventh.
    Colson won the 200, with H. Rusher second and Adelle Eskew third. Emily Randall won the 400 with Lizbet Mireles right behind in second and H. Rusher in sixth.
    E. Randall also won the 800, followed by Miranda Spady in second and Elizabeth Hanna sixth.
    Landree McNair placed second, Aria McNair fourth, Kate Colson sixth and Brooke Schilke seventh in the 1600.
    Tessa Smith, Anna Aragon and Paige Nickless finished 2,3 and 4 respectively in the 3200.
    In the 100 hurdles, Peyton Owens finished second, Tristan Nordhausen fourth and Karlie Anderson sixth.
    Nordhausen placed third, Marley Randall fourth and Anderson fifth in the 300 hurdles.
    All three of the relay teams finished in second place. The 4x100 lost to DCS by 0.13 seconds and the 4x400 to Perkins County by 0.14 seconds.
    Brooke Schilke, Kylee Wiest and Mya White finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the shot put. In the discus, Wiest was second, Schilke fifth and Athziry Valenzuela sixth.
    Karlie Anderson finished in a tie for second and Landree McNair fourth in the high jump.
    Besides Beemer winning the pole vault, Aria McNair was second and Kadence Wallin fifth.
    Eskew led the long jumpers with a second place finish, while Alarcon-Ortega was third and M. Randall fourth.
    Owens won the triple jump with a personal best of 34’ 11”. M. Randall placed second and Eskew finished seventh.

    This was the last meet leading into Districts, May 9 in Bayard.
    Although Head Girls Track Coach Troy Hauxwell didn’t think there would be a serious challenge for a district team championship, he noted that there are several good athletes on many of the teams  that will be in attendance.
    He knows his team is prepared and that they need to stay focused if they want to earn a trip to Omaha, May 17-18.
    Other schools attending the District C9 Meet in Bayard are, Bayard, Bridgeport, Chase County, Gordon Rushville, Hemingford, Hershey, Kimball, Mitchell, Morrill and Perkins County.
    Going into Districts, Chase County has four individual athletes and two relays that are in the top 10 marks for class C.
    Ella Colson has the tenth fastest time in the state in class C in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Peyton Owens is also in the tenth spot in the 300 meter hurdles.
    Karlie Anderson is tied for tenth in the high jump and Avery Beemer has the fourth best height in the pole vault.
    The 4x100 relay team of  Colson, Riley Rusher, Adelle Eskew and Hayley Rusher have the ninth fastest time.
    Owens, Lizbet Mireles, H. Rusher and R. Rusher have the fastest time in class C in the 4x400 relay.
